And yes, some idiot actually sent this to me. I find it amusing that they assume that the reader is part-way blind and can’t read this text I’m writing.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and the money would come in handy!!
This was on the 9:00 o’clock news the other night and this works
THIS TOOK TWO PAGES OF THE TUESDAY USA TODAY - IT IS FOR REAL
PLEEEEEEASE READ!!!! it was on the news!
This thing is for real. Rest assured AOL and Intel will follow through with their promises for fear of facing a multimillion-dollar class action suit similar to the one filed by PepsiCo against General Electric not too long ago.
Dear Friends; Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates sharing his fortune. If you ignore this, You will repent later. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.
When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track it (If you are a Microsoft Windows user)? For a two weeks time period.
For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and ! for every third person that receives it, You will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you for your address and then send you a check.
Regards

I thought this was a scam myself, But two weeks after receiving this e-mail and forwarding it on. Microsoft contacted me for my address and within days, I receive a check for $24, 800.00. You need to respond before the beta testing is over. If anyone can afford this, Bill gates is the man.
It’s all marketing expense to him. Please forward this to as many people as possible. You are bound to get at least $10, 000.00. We’re not going to help them out with their e-mail beta test without getting a li ttle something for our time. My brother’s girlfriend got in on this a few months ago. When I went to visit him for the Baylor /UT game. She showed me her check. It was for the sum of $4, 324.44 and was stamped ‘Paid in full’
Like I said before, I know the law, and this is for real.
Intel and AOL are now discussing a merger which would make them the largest Internet company and in an effort make sure that AOL remains the most widely used program, Intel and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.
When you forward this e-mail to friends, Intel can and will track it ( if you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time period.
Try it; What have you got to lose! |

Oh my god… how can people be so stupid…Ok, first of all, a ‘Beta test’ is used for trying out for something that is to come. This is stupid. Nobody would every want to make a beta for giving out money. Also, there would have to be some chance for a problem for a beta test. If you said it was just a normal test it might make a tiny bit more sense, but right now I’m just getting the assumption that you’ve got the intelligence of a lemming, or at least when it comes to when you know what you’re talking about. Not convinced? Ok, hold on, let me do the math here…Judging by the people who sent it to me, and since it lists how many people they sent it to… hold on….
Just from this one set of people, which I’m guessing is 1/10 of the actual e-mails sent out, maybe even 1/100, starting small though… a total of 226 e-mails where sent out, which means if that were 1/10 then roughly 2260 e-mails were sent out. Since every 3rd e-mail awards you extra money, that means that a total of 75 bonuses were awarded, which translates to 750, and if they send it once received, then there is more, and since everybody on this list obviously sent it to somebody, that’s another 226 extras, translating to 2260. From the e-mails sent out, $553,700.00 would be given away. Then, the extras are worth $182,250.00, and if you add on the, uh, ‘add-on’ payment then that’s $544,660.00. If you add them all together, you will discover that $1,280,610.00 would be handed out for free. And of course, I’m assuming that it is actually a ratio of 1:100, therefore it would be (very roughly) $12,280,610.00 handed out. In case you have not concept of money, that’s probably much more money then you are worth.
I did a little bit of snooping around, and I found this.

Oh how shocking! Somebody seems to be doing exactly the same thing you are doing, except it was originally made in 2004 and is slightly different. Hold on, wouldn’t that mean that if you add the expenses from this year to the expenses from that year, you would get somewhere around $24,561,220.00. That’s funny, because they are both beta tests, so why would they perform two of them? Conclusion: You all fell for itNo, I’m sure what actually happened is that they copied and pasted it and sent it off to some person on their contact list.
